DCC II away at Kidlington III
A slightly below strength, but very determined team turned up looking to prove we had strength in depth – including new boy Andy Cork.
Skipper for the day, Dave Barnhill, lost the toss and we were asked to bat first.
Lewis Bletchley could not recapture his form of last week, but along with Niall gave us a solid start of 25, before he fell. Niall batted well for his 20 and although nobody in the top 5 threw themselves away quickly, we were in a sticky position on 65 for 5 after 20 overs.
Joe Roberts and Luca Catania decided to steady the ship and did so very well, adding 30 before Luca was dismissed. Georgia hung around but lost her wicket with the score on 98. With 15 overs left Dave and Joe decided to curb their natural instincts. In 11 overs they added 41, before Joe got out for a patient and well deserved 50. Mike Wheeler and Alan Collins helped Dave take the score to 154 before he was out in the last over for a solid 25. At this point mention must be made of 13 year old Thomas Owen who on his league debut bowled well and took 5 wickets for Kidlington.
We took tea knowing they wanted it to rain far more than we did. Sadly they got their wish and we never got back out.
A really good solid team performance with everyone playing their part. Still unbeaten and top of the table.
Man of the Match – Joe Roberts. Well batted mate.
Jedi – Alan Collins for his text book straight drive. Like an exocet all along the floor, although sadly straight into the stumps at the other end.
Dunce – their lad who dropped Joe and then in a moment of rage kicked the ball 40 yards to the boundary. Joe appreciated the 4 unexpected runs.
