Nice weather for ducks….

II’s vs. Stonesfield away, 4-5-19 Well it all started well as Deddington lost the toss and fielded first. Watty from the Hempton end and Biswajit, our Deddington resident newbie both with medium swingers. The batsmen obviously had plans because they set off at quite a rate. After 8 overs Captn Simon rang the changes and with 60 odd on the board, Cat and Joe were on with a long spell of spinning. Joe threw one Read more…

Pre-season Warm Up

After the unseasonally good weather over Easter, it was inevitable that the pre-season inter-club warm-up game on April 27th was played in altogether different conditions. Despite this, there was plenty of promise and enthusiasm on show from two evenly-matched sides made up from the women’s and men’s squads. The format was 15 deliveries faced per batsman and a maximum of 4 overs per bowler. Five runs were deducted for each wicket lost. Rob (Deepdale) Preston Read more…

2019 Membership payment is now due.  Details as follows: All Playing Members – £50 One Adult and one Under 18 – £70 In 2018 we changed our policy on annual subscriptions to encourage more occasional members to join, even if they planned to play only a few matches. Deddington Cricket Club AGM and Quiz night

The club held its AGM and a quiz night on Friday 18th January at the Unicorn in Deddington. At the AGM, the current officers were all re-elected for the coming year and the accounts for 2018 were accepted.  Once again, expenses exceeded income for the year despite the Club securing some excellent sponsorship from Bristol Street Motors, Hire Fitness and Yellowtail Wines.  Further fundraising and a new member recruitment-drive is needed to help balance the Read more…

End of Season Awards

On October 27th the Club held its End of Season Dinner and Awards night. It was great to see so many people there, especially a great turnout from our Ladies team and to have there Club President and Committee Secretary Derek and Jill Cheeseman as well as Mike Sinfield, one of the Club’s two very reliable and supportive umpires.  A great time was had by all who were there. Five new awards were handed out Read more…

End of Season, End of Era

With storm clouds, pierced by low, late Summer sun, circling the nearby White Horse Hill, there was a suitably ‘Fin de siecle’ backdrop to the final game of the season for Deddy Firsts.  It was also the final game for Dave ‘Barney’ Barnhill, before he packs his kit into the loft for the final time.  Dave has only been a member at Deddington for 5 years, but has been playing Oxfordshire League cricket for more Read more…

Take the pain away but leave the swelling…

17.06.17, DEDDINGTON 2s –vs- WOLVERCOTE 3s, League We welcomed our visitors, Wolvercote III, to The Windmill centre and a gloriously hot and sunny day. Almost beyond belief we had a full 11 at the ground, ready to play before the game started. Almost more unbelievably skipper Ash Clark won the toss. Very sensibly he chose to bat first. The openers, Joe Roberts and Niall Murphy very quickly settled and looked very solid. Aided early on Read more…

Phew, what a scorcher

17-6-18: Osberton Radiators Cup Stonesfield (Div 7) Vs Deddington (Div 8 North) On day described by the ‘Current Bun’ 30 years ago as ‘Phew, what a scorcher’ won again Ash won the toss and consigned the hosts to 45 overs in the field with the Rev Doctor opening with Niall. Niall made a positive start crossing the rope twice but was undone by a top edge having been tucked a bit. The Reverend Doctor, after Read more…

Timmy Mallet’s Bikini

DCC 2s vs Westcott 2s – 10th June 2017 The visitors batted first and 10 of us took the field feeling very excited because having missed all of 2016 due to injury, Stuart Leece was making his come back. Stu, of course, was his normal chilled out and laconic self. Jimmy McPhee and Stu opened the bowling and were excellent. They bowled so well that the dots mount in the score and before long there Read more…
