Newsletter Jan 19

I hope that you have all had a great Christmas and I wish you the very best for 2019 on and off the cricket field! It may be in mid-winter, but with the Big Bash underway in Australia and India taking a 2-1 series victory in their Test series Down-Under, there is plenty to brighten-up those long dark evenings. Closer to home, preparations for the 2019 Season are underway, so here is a brief update on what has been happening and some dates for the diary.

OCA League 2019

The OCA have published the leagues for next Summer.  As expected, both Deddington teams are in the same divisions as last season.  Full details are on www.oxfordshirecricketassociation.org.uk, as are details of the new Committee members. There remains differing opinions about whether the match rules should change for the new season, with shorter games in the lower divisions one of the key elements.  The Deddington CC Committee are in favour of shorter games and a minimum of five bowlers to ensure we get as many people playing and being involved in the games.  This will be discussed further by the OCA and club representatives.

HOME COUNTIES WOMENS CRICKET LEAGUE The Deddington Ladies team will be playing in the newly formed Home Counties Women’s Cricket League and will be in Division 1 North and West.  They will also play in Group C of a Super 8s competition as well over the Summer.

CLUB DEVELOPMENT

In recent weeks, members of the Deddington CC Committee have attended meetings held by the local ECB Development staff and The Oxfordshire Cricket Board to provide details of fundraising opportunities, how to run sessions for 5-10 year-olds, including how to get more parents involved in youth cricket and about how to use the Cricket World Cup locally to promote clubs.

WINTER NETS

Some important dates for your diary.  Winter nets have been booked at North Oxford Accademy at Drayton in Banbury for the following Sundays:-

March 10th, 17th, 24th

April 7th, 14th

Each session will be from 3-4.30pm each day and will cost £3 per person per session as per last year.  It will be great to see as many of you there as possible to ease you into another season.

AGM

Another date closer to the start of the year is for the AGM which will be held at the Unicorn Deddington on Friday January 18th at 7pm.  We had a great turn-out last year and it would be good to see even more of you this time.  The intention is to combine the AGM with a more social occasion with a light meal and a quiz.  More details will follow shortly, so please put a hold the date more in your diary for the 18th.
