2nds vs. Stanton Harcourt II’s, 13-6-15 at the Windmill:
A dull, grey, dreary and drizzly afternoon welcomed ourselves and our visitors from Stanton Harcourt 2nd XI. It never got any better.
DCC batted first and lost Joe Roberts early on. Steve Welch then dug in and tried to build an innings but received no real support until Georgia, batting at 7, managed to frustrate the bowlers. They stopped the rot and when Georgia was dismissed Simon Oldfield also kept Steve company. At 70 for 6 we were well set for 130, which would be a useful total in difficult conditions. Sadly Steve and Simon fell on 70 and only a few useful tail end runs saw us to 92 all out. Would it be enough?
Well Lewis thought so as he hit the top of off stump three times in his first ten balls, leaving the visitors in some trouble at 3 for 3. The 4th wicket pairing came at us and quickly took the total to 45. Although Dave and Simon took wickets, Stanton Harcourt won comfortably passing our total for the loss of six wickets.
No complaints as the better team won, but another 30 runs would have made for an interesting finish.
