A truly transitional year for Ladies Cricket at Deddington CC !!

From a squad at the end of 2021 that rarely put out a full 11 ( although always remaining competitive), the numbers grew to a point that a possibility of 2 Super 8 teams could have been put out.

The super 8’s was used as a nursery for the new team members to prepare them for full League cricket starting in June.

So results were inconsistent, with the team just missing out on finals day after coming 2nd to Oxford.

For the main League the improvement from start to end was sensational with outstanding performances from newcomer Karen White and consistent play from “veterans ” Georgia and Cat.

Lot’s of new players meant full sides put out every week, with all players getting opportunities to bat, bowl and keep wicket to ensure cover in all positions.

The last few games of the season saw the improvement made primarily with the batting with winning scores of over 150, highlighted with a 166 to win our last game.

Not aiming to highlight individual performances as biggest success was the maturing of the team into a fully competitive squad going forward.

This season also saw the changing of guard with Georgia stepping down after 10 years of leading the side both on and off the pitch. There is no doubt , from small beginnings , the ladies section is in a fantastic position going forward.

Here’s hoping that she still performs as well as ever for the club without the pressure.

Best wishes to Fleur who is stepping up to Captain the team for the 2023 season with a squad eager to perform.
