Our Ladies went into their double header against Oxford 2s in the Super 8s tournament knowing that two victories would see them complete the group stage unbeaten and reach Finals Day.

The day started well with winning the toss, which enabled Deddington to opt to field first – a much preferred option in this format of the game. The bowlers again put on a really tight performance which saw Alice Whitaker take her first wicket for the club when she deceived the batsman into nicking the ball into Caz Ward’s gloves. This was after Alice had taken a top class catch off Cat Williamson’s bowling – probably the most laid back stunning catch we will ever see!

Oxford finished the first game with a net score of 218 having lost 7 wickets.

Deddington quickly chased down the target score and utilised the remaining overs to reach a respectable net score of 275 having lost 5 wickets.

The second game of the day saw Oxford win the toss and elect to bat. Deddington’s bowlers were again in good form keeping the net score to 242 and taking 5 wickets. This included a caught and bowled for Georgia Adams which was well held as she stumbled while taking the catch. This was the second of two wickets in two balls during an impressive spell.

Deddington again went out and chased hard with the bat, achieving a net score of 286 and losing only 3 wickets. This was despite the Oxford captain, Ridhi Kashyap, also taking two wickets in two balls.

At the end of the group stages two of Deddington’s ladies are flying high in the statistics for the tournament (across all leagues)

Congratulations to Georgia Adams who is 2nd in the bowling statistics with 15 wickets (two behind the top placed bowler). Georgia has the best economy rate at 1.13, the best strike rate at 6.4 and the best average at 1.2. Impressive stats Georgia!

Congratulations also to Cat Williamson who is 2nd in the batting statistics with he net runs only 3 runs behind the top placed batsman and the best batting average of 115. Equally impressive stats Cat!

The ladies would like to go on record with a big thanks to David Webb, who week in week out puts in a huge amount of time and effort supporting them in so many ways, with a special shout out for his performance yesterday as he managed to umpire at both ends while also scoring! Thanks Webby

The ladies will now take part in Finals Day at Charlbury Cricket Club next Sunday. Good luck everyone, it would be great to see you bag some silverware!
