2021 season

While we still await full details of the conditions under which we will be able to train and play cricket from the ECB, the Government announcement that outside organised sport can resume from March 29th is a great sign that we should be able to look forward to a full season of competitive cricket.  To that end, the Committee have been planning our pre-season ready for a first games on the weekend of May 1/2.
Here therefore are some dates for the diary, requests for helping things to note and respond to over the next few weeks.

Player registration

Existing members should have received an e-mail from Derek asking for some details to enable us to to register you for the Cherwell League.  Confirmation of your post code, date of birth and contact details are required.  Even if you plan to only play a couple of games, it is best for us to have you registered before the start of the season, as there is a per person charge if this is done after the first weekend of games.  If you have not seen the e-mail from Derek, please let him know ASAP via email to sunnybank11@googlemail.com

Annual membership subscription

Last year we did not charge an annual membership due to the shortness of the season and uncertainty of how much cricket we would get played.  We were also able to reduce our costs to some extent, with lower payments to the Parish Council for the use of the ground, reduced maintenance costs etc.  We were also the beneficiaries of grants from both Sport England and the ECB, that helped tide-us over and had some very kind voluntary donations from members and our Vice Presidents.  Our finances are therefore in a stable, if not robust position, as those who attended the AGM will know.
The Committee has decided that in these uncertain times our annual membership rates should remain the same as 2019.  These are £50 for an adult, £70 for an adult and Junior ( under 18), or student in full time education from the same household and £30 for an individual, or additional Junior member.  These rates are well below many other local sides in the Cherwell League and reflect the inclusive, community-wide culture of our Club. Again, there is a £5 reduction on these rates for all annual membership subs paid before the end of April.
To pay your annual subs we recommend electronic transfer into the Club account.
When doing so, please put your name and “2021 Subs” as the reference.  Please also drop an e-mail to Derek (sunnybank11@googlemail.com) and Simon (simon.oldfield0@gmail.com) to let us know you have paid.  Contact Simon for account details if you did not receive them via email.

Weather permitting nets are on Wednesday and Thursday evenings starting at 5.30pm. This year there are no restrictions on the number of players that can attend nets, but there are several other rules to be aware of. There will be a separate post with all of the details in.

Practice game

As in the past couple of seasons a warm-up practice game is planned for Saturday May 1st. We hope that as many players as possible will be available for this, as it is also a good opportunity to discuss the Cherwell League playing rules and make sure we are all up to speed for the new season.

Cherwell League

Both our Saturday teams will be playing in the Cherwell League this year. Our fixtures can be found on elsewhere on this website, in the fixtures section. The Cherwell League website:  https://www.cherwellcricketleague.com/index.php  also has the fixtures, league tables and match regulations which we would encourage you to visit and read.

Club kit site

For this season, we have created a Club kit website together with Serious Cricket where you can order and purchase a range of Club match and training kit.  All items can be personalised and come in a range of sizes and styles.  We have also secured a 15% discount on the standard prices. There will be a seperate post about this, or contact Simon for details.

Sponsors and Club Development

We are in the process of seeking some new sponsors for the Club after our previous shirt sponsor Bristol Street Motors stepped down.  Obviously these have been challenging times for may businesses and we are grateful to those who we still support the Club through sponsorship and advertising.  As well as general financial support, we have specific development projects that we are looking to part-fund through commercial sponsorship including mobile covers for the square and a new main mower. The covers offer a highly visible advertising canvas (pardon the pun) for any sponsor and the shirt sponsor, or sponsors is seen as the most valuable assert we have.  If you know of any local business who may be interested in supporting the Club, please contact either Simon, Joe Robert or Jill Cheeseman.
